What Can I Use Instead Of Beer In The Bloomin Onions Recipe?

Author: Staff  //  Category: Home Brewing Recipes

All the recipes I found for “bloomin onions” include beer in the ingredients. Isn’t there any substitute?

  1. It is an old, old recipe. Beer is called for NOT for the taste of beer. It’s call for because beer contains yeast. And yeast wasn’t easy to get, back in the day. If you have yeast, mix one quarter teaspoon with 13 ozs of water. That’s a substitute. No yeast? mix on quarter teaspoon of baking soda with 13 ozs of water. That’s another substitute. Good Luck.

  2. Well first I would have to ask why you don’t want to use beer. If you cannot buy it because of your age, you can buy non-alcoholic beer and it should taste the same for cooking purposes, or at least close enough that no one would care. Or if you just do not want to have alcohol in your food, the cooking process would remove all the alcohol from normal beer.
Other than that, I would say just skip the beer, but then the bloomin’ onions would taste differently than others you may have had.

  3. You could use alcohol free beer. The alcohol boils off in the real thing anyways.

  4. you could use just plain old water. Or for a sweeter recipe use coke or root beer.
