This is a LOW COMMITMENT method of brewing that you can brew INDOORS on your STOVE TOP! No mashing or fancy tools required! This is meant to REPLACE any of the tin can or Mr. Beer methods of brewing you might be getting sold on. BE SMART! Do NOT waste money on these kits! Here we show you how to decipher a recipe, and what you can replace in the recipe. Do NOT get sold on pre-packaged kits that will turn out poor beer! Do NOT get sold on promises of ‘beer in 6 days!’ Do NOT listen to the guy who’s been brewing for 40 years and ‘never had a problem’ and ‘it tastes great!’. Do NOT get sold on people trying to ‘sell’ you things or have ultimate motives. And what ever you do, do NOT buy any Cooper’s beer brewing products regardless of who you see online advertising for them. It is money down the drain. Take it from someone who got suckered in himself.

@bmeyer44 exactly. Hewants us to treat it like a cooking recipe, but if you dont have nutmeg, you cantjust use cinnamon and get the same flavors.

@BobbyFromNJ Yup you’re right. I recommended the replacement based of Jamil’s recommendation when someone asked if he could just use less of 120L instead of 40L. He said you could but would get raisin flavors.
So I recommended 40L as a happy medium just to show the possibility is there and wouldn’t effect the beer that much.
I also said any malts below the base malts was ‘flavor malts’ which isn’t true either but I didn’t want to over complicat things.

@JOMalone3113 Yes I know but now is not the time to split hairs to noobs. You can’t expect them to add a lb to their grain bill when they trying for the first time and spending that much on DME. They can substitute that grain and even do without the Carapills and wheat if they really wanted to although both will add to mouth feel and texture. They need for sure the DME, Crystal, and Munich. The DME has Carapills in it. The small .13 Aroma vs substitution wouldn’t make that much of a difference.

@TakeSomeAdvice there is a fine line between over complicating things and giving false information.
You bash the “kits” which have been formulated by professional brewers at the supply shops, yet you are twisting Toms recipe into something it was never intended to be.
I suggest you visit the Briess website and learn the flavor profiles of the malts you intend to use.

I make my beer according to what I like.
I don’t use other recipes.
I study the malt, hop and yeast profiles and brew according to how I want it to taste.
I’m not much of a hop person, so my beers tend to be on the more malty side.
but you have to know what each component lends to the recipe and then combine them to create your beer.
I like malty, less hoppy beers brewed with noble hops…thats just me.

@TakeSomeAdvice I dont disagree with the lack of need for carapils and maybe the aromatic, although you can def notice a diff in a beer that has it and one that doesnt. But what I am saying is you are changing the recipe to something diff than what Tom had originally intended and the beer you are proposing is not the same beer. If that was your intention, then fine, but I dont understand asking for recipes then changing them to the point that they are not close to the original

@TakeSomeAdvice but that is just it. Brewing isnt “easy”. It isnt hard either, but you are making it fairly complicated and giving out info that may not be true,in an effort to simplify it for some people. The people who are watching your channel (for the most part) are prob not noobs, they are mostly brewers of some kind, that are looking for new ideas. I like the idea of making it cheaper and “easier”, but make sure you arent giving out info that might not be 100% acurate

I keep reading all these comments from people giving TSA a really hard time. I do not see why this type of rudeness continues. Perhaps if we all take a minute to change the premiss on how we view his videos. I live by this idea “90% of everything sucks”. Please remember this when watching TSA’s videos. If you believe my 90% idea is incorrect please don’t take my word for it, let TSA explain it himself. (BOOK REVIEW: Brewing Classic Styles: 80 Winning Recipes Anyone Can Brew) look it up.

Hey I have a question you said in a recent video that craigtube could get all the grains, all the hops, and everything and it’s only a bike ride away, which we now know it’s not but anyway if he can get that in his city and you frequently visit there, why can’t you get all the grains in this resipe? Maybe “the best home brew supply shop in Canada” as you refer to it isn’t what you say it is? So you lied again. Judging by your “other lives” on youtube, you do this alot. Why do you do that for?

@bmeyer44 Yeah, TSA’s comments about online kits confused me….aren’t they somebody’s recipe? Just because a kit comes out differently than expected doesn’t mean that the kit is bad. There’s too many variables involved. I’ve had extract kits come out differently, and I’ve had them come out right on the nose.
Just for grins, I’m going to order an all-grain kit from one of the big boys (probably AustinHomebrew) just to see what happens.

@bmeyer44 Check out Williams brewing’s site—they sell LME made out of Maris Otter. I made a killer Scottish 70 with it.

@jturie, I’m still trying t figure out how many different malt brands he’s tried. Just because Coopers is or isn’t ( I dont know for myself) crap, doesn’t mean that the other brands of malt are junk too. mine come in the plastic milk jug and I’ve NEVER had a problem with it.
I just don’t understand the DME vs LME debate. same thing only diffferent and it still isn’t all grain doing it with DME.
So my beef is, what ACTUALLY makes DME better than LME and not TSA’s explanation. I want a real one.

@bmeyer44 That’s just it….he’s never tried anything other than Coopers pre-hopped extract. He probably heard Jamil mention in passing on a PodCast that he prefers DME to LME. Based on what I’ve heard, the only advantage of DME over LME is its superior shelf life. Now, I’m talking plain, UNHOPPED LME.

@jturie if you get your LME from a good reputable homebrew shop, it should be fresh. The stuff I always got was top notch…
I’ll brew with extract and specialty grains OR all grain…just depends on how much time I have on my hands.
The all grain IS fun, but more time consuming.

Even though I know nothing about homebrewing I totally agree about the difference between extract kit can brewing and all-grain brewing. Kit cans are good for beginners, but they are essentially the equivalent of a frozen pizza or even hotpockets as compared to pizza you’d get at a fine Italian restaurant.
The problem is all grain brewing requires spending a lot of money and time and experience.
Can’t wait to see how it turns out.

@Chad9976 I don’t think it’s fair to lump ALL kits into the ” Coopers tin can kits” though.
A lot of good homebrewing shops will carry a good quality malt that most likely wouldn’t even compare to some of the canned stuff.
That said, I’ve never used Coopers malt, so I can’t vouch for the quality, one way or the other.
